Anthem of Life’s Assistant Director

Abigail "Ameley" Quaye

Abigail “Ameley” Quaye is a Ghanaian Theatre Artist with specialties in Playwriting, Directing, Dramaturgy, and Performance Studies. She locates her works within Afrocentric paradigms, Indigenous philosophies and pedagogies, African cosmology, spirituality and worldview, postcolonial politics of resistance, and decolonial thoughts. Her background in playwriting and directing stem from conventional training in the classroom and through mentorship under renowned Ghanaian and Canadian playwrights and directors/theatre makers. Ameley seeks to delve into the soul of African Aesthetic expressions of tradition and rituals through literary works and performance. Her current research focus is on Women and negotiated performance spaces through the lens of postcolonial resistance.

Enakshi Sinha

Enakshi Sinha, since first tying her dancing bells, has never stopped. As a leading Odissi dancer in North America, her career spans 19 vibrant years. She founded and directs the Mrudanga Center for Performing Arts in Toronto, Canada, where she teaches Odissi dance. Enakshi trains hundreds of local students and reaches national and international students through the Center’s digital platform. Her passion for teaching extends to rural schools in India, demonstrating the impact of dance and yoga on children. Her numerous prestigious awards, titles, and grants attest to her exceptional talent. As a choreographer and director, she skillfully conceptualizes themes and leads her team to execute her artistic vision. Recognized as a cultural ambassador for India in Canada, she represents her heritage with pride. Enakshi’s multifaceted contributions to the performing arts and her unwavering dedication make her a truly commendable artist.

Eric Awuah

Awuah has been active in the world of Traditional and Neo-Traditional Ghanaian dances, as well as Contemporary African Dance, for nearly two decades. With a deep commitment to the art form, Awuah has dedicated his career to practicing, performing, teaching, and researching these vibrant dance traditions. As a performer, Awuah explores and experiments with neo-traditional movement structures, using them as a means to understand and embody the “African Genius” concept. This approach not only underscores Black artistic excellence but also serves as a powerful conduit for cultural expression and identity.

Lebo Disele

Lebo Disele is a theatre-maker with a focus in movement, acting, directing, and dramaturgy. She was the Artistic Associate at Mile Zero Dance for Winter 2022 and a part of the Citadel RBC Mentorship Program’s 2021/22 cohort. She recently co-created and performed in Ogboingba tries to change her fate at the Jabulani Arts Festival. Other performance credits include The Wolves (Maggie Tree/Citadel); Breaking Ground (Mile Zero Dance); The Space Between (NextFest 2021, Expanse Festival 2022); “Radical Imagination” in Brandon Wint’s Freedom Journal: Antidotes to Violence as Care (2022); All That Binds Us (Azimuth Theatre, 2020); and What (Black) Life Requires (Expanse Festival, 2018). Lebo locates her work within the genre of physical theatre, focusing on interdisciplinary collective creation.

Randall Fraser

Randall is thrilled to work on the world of Anthem of Life. This new evolution of the story from epic poem to Massive live production has been a truly awesome adventure. Randall has been creating with Theatre Prospero since 1989, or so, and happy to see them thriving and growing into ever more grand avenues of creativity.

Valentine Ukoh

Valentine is a versatile, multi-talented Theatre, TV, and Film Actor; Director; Video Editor; and Theatre Manager. He is renowned for his short film "The Man" (2015) for the African Students’ Film Festival in Lagos, and his award-winning film "Listen" (2017) by Graig-Phillips College of Technology for the Toronto Film Festival, Canada, where he won the "Best Film" award.

This 3-time best actor began his career in 2009 as a stage director at the renowned Lagos State University in Ojo, Nigeria, where he majored in acting and directing. Having directed over ten plays and counting, Valentine was also trained as a film director by the New York Film Academy team, sponsored by the Lagos State Government, Nigeria.

He has appeared in numerous plays and films in Nigeria and Canada from 2009 to date.

Meet the Creative Team

Select a Workshop

Browse our full- and half-day Workshops for elementary, junior high, and high school classrooms, offered both virtually and in person. Offerings include Acting, Dance, Directing, Drumming, Play Creation, Playwriting, Storytelling, and Storytelling/Drama Fusion Workshops!

*Regarding in-person Workshops

Presently, we are only offering in-person Workshops for schools located in (1) Edmonton, St. Albert, and Sherwood Park, (2) the Edmonton Metropolitan Region, within a 1-hour drive of Downtown Edmonton, at an additional per-kilometre charge for the driving distance of the artist, and (3) within the Greater Toronto Area, subject to an additional transportation fee of $20 outside of Brampton, Mississauga, and Oakville. Please do not book an in-person Workshop if your school’s location does not meet one of the above conditions.

Prepayment of the invoice is required for all bookings. Listed prices do not include GST/HST. Refunds and changes to bookings are determined on a case-by-case basis. To request a refund or change to your booking, please email bookings@theatreprospero.ca. Changes are subject to artist availability and not guaranteed by Theatre Prospero Association. Cancellations more than seven (7) calendar days prior to the date of your booking will be refunded 95% of the payment (5% is withheld by Theatre Prospero Association to offset payment processing and other fees incurred). Cancellations less than or seven (7) days prior to the date of your booking will be refunded 50% of the payment. In-person workshop bookings made within the Edmonton Metropolitan Region (outside of Edmonton, St. Albert, and Sherwood Park) are subject to a mileage fee of $0.65 per kilometre of travel from the artist's residence to the school. Mileage fees will be calculated after booking and invoiced separately. In-person workshop bookings made within the Greater Toronto Area (outside of Brampton, Mississauga, and Oakville) are subject to a transportation fee of $20. Transportation fees will be included on the invoice.
