  • Multi-week Residencies

    Multi-week Residencies

Our company can come to your school for a day, a week or a month - the length of time we spend with you depends only on your students' imaginations. In consultation with your teachers, we can develop a residency tailored to your school's curriculum.

  • Working With Students

    Students rehearse alongside our cast

Our touring productions give students an opportunity to rehearse and perform alongside our cast, and also allow teachers to integrate our performance into their curriculum in an active way.

Our Reviews

" This is a stately and intimate production. An austere, visceral adaptation that shows worthwhile theatre comes from passionate, thoughtful performances filling a apace with genuine emotion.  "

What Is Theatre Prospero?

Our Mandate

To provide innovative and affordable classical theatre for student and community audiences, and to provide high-level training and performance opportunity for teenagers.

Where We Are, Whom We Serve

We are based in Edmonton, Alberta. We serve junior and senior high schools in Alberta; we have also served Edmonton elementary school children. For the 2009 – 2010 season we are mounting student participation productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream and King Lear, which we will tour to schools throughout Alberta.  We also provide multi-week Artist-in-Residence programs for junior and senior high schools.

Our Main Goals and Artistic Objectives

  • To keep Shakespeare’s works alive as a tool people can use to explore and celebrate what it means to be human.
  • To make them accessible to modern audiences in their local cultures without watering down the content.
  • To celebrate and bring to immediate life other works that deal with great themes about humans as individuals and societies.

Our Role in the Arts Community

Our primary role is in arts education and audience development. We like to give young performers a chance to fly. Many of our student performers keep coming back to our projects in increasingly challenging roles. We believe that putting faith in youth can only have positive psychological and sociological repercussions.
